JOANNA HALPIN - Style Director #1
Introducing our first ever COPPEN Style Director: Joanna Halpin
The photographer and model shares her styling tips and we discuss sustainability in all forms, including investment pieces and the importance of slow fashion. How fresh styling can reinvent a garment to have a new life and fit into your wardrobe for longer.
Describe your style in 3 words.
Effortless, androgynous, timeless.
What’s your favourite investment piece in your wardrobe? Any tips for choosing something carefully?
I recently purchased a vintage Armani blazer from a shop upstate that I am very much in love with. I don't purchase investment pieces often, but my advice would be to invest in something timeless that you know you're going to always love and wear, rather than following a trend or rash impulse that you later regret.
What are your 5 fashion essentials to create a capsule wardrobe that lasts?
Navy tailored trousers, short sleeved white tee, navy cashmere jumper, black ballet flats, black belt... for me you can never go wrong with navy and white.
At COPPEN we urge our customers to style in vintage with our garments to ensure them a long and versatile life. What are some of your favourite vintage stores?
There are a few favourites close to my apartment in NY that I love looking in are : Desert Vintage, Lara Koleji and Ending Soon.
Where is the ideal setting that you can see yourself wearing your COPPEN TORO shorts and what would you pair them with?
I have a couple of European trips planned this summer where I shall most definitely be wearing my COPPEN shorts... likely paired with a white shirt and ballet flats.
What does sustainable fashion mean to you?
Buying second hand when possible and approaching fashion and purchases thoughtfully.
What tips do you have to resist throw away culture that is so tempting in every day life?
A lot of the photos I take are nudes... so that's about as sustainable as one can get. But I also love taking photos as a form of observing and documenting a person, a moment, a feeling rather than being fashion or product focused.
